"I am hearing some shows," my co-program director tells me, "more often than I need to." You know what? I am doing some shows more often than I need to. If only that "volunteer-driven" thing we like to say about ourselves were more reality and less fantasy, BOMBAST would be more rare, more precious. You might even miss it, because it might actually go away from time to time.
I haven't forgotten that at this time last year someone was stalking my internet musings and snitching on me. In a weird way I kind of miss it. At any rate, I'm posting this with full cognizance.
In the real world, this program began 29 hours after the last one ended. It was not actually supposed to happen, but then accidents intervened. Several weeks prior I had claimed a couple of time slots that DJ Andrea had given up, thinking that one of them--no idea which--could be Dub Night. Then The Izzy Awards appeared on our radar, and of course I withdrew from this particular time slot so that we could broadcast them live. And of course we couldn't broadcast them live, because the host institution--the one Committed to Excellence, mind you--has WiFi capabilities not seen since the previous decade, and did not respond to our emails asking for (a) a decent connection or (b) confirmation that they had upgraded.
Knowing that the Threshold of Excellence is within everyone's reach is a comfort.
So we recorded that event for later broadcast--and good thing, because who knew that award-winning scribes cursed like sailors?--and, as they often do, the "live" hosting opportunity for this time slot went un-claimed. What is to be done?
The airwaves are to be filled until I flame out or get hit by a bus. That is what. Don't thank me. Hero's work is its own reward.
