I Make My Own True Crooked Way: Transmission 434, 2018 November 28

Happy New Year! I cannot decide whether this is the "birthday" episode of the program, or whether the previous outing marked that occasion. Ideally, we would have celebrated the 6th anniversary of our debut on 21 November, which was, at long last, the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, but we were spending the holiday at my brother's house, which was surely more festive. At any rate, our last episode was more of a party, albeit (a big caveat here) a fundraising one, and this episode here is a more restrained yet representative solo outing. Fat, refreshed, and grounded, I was, on this night.

This is not to say that we never go "off the path" here. Though it begins strongly, the program seems to lose its way somewhere in that Mac Gregor / C Cat Trance / Pete Bassman sequence, despite the fact that all of those are good tracks. In the second hour I start to find myself, in grooves and atmospheres, but then I start to play John Tejada twice (again, a good track, but still). I've been re-reading Shadowplayers lately, and in it Bernard Sumner describes his creative process as "the way of mistakes." That could be the title for this program, generally. We owe a debt to Mr. Sumner, and we'll try to pay a bit of it soon.
