Bonjour. LeBatard here, in the frozen north. Four months ago I produced this radio program, right here. Goodness knows what I was thinking on this hot August night. But I can guarantee that I was not thinking about a drifter that I had killed just for fun.

For my part, I do drift, mostly. Predominantly, I just drift. I don't know what else one is to do in these times, except perhaps read tedious blog posts. I hope you are at least reading this on a mobile, as part of some adventure. At any rate, If I had to nail down some kind of "theme" or "connecting thread" to this episode, I suppose it would be "the mind," but Kid Catharsis tells me these things have to happen in threes, so no dice. You're on your own, as always.

LeBatard here, again. I do what I can to provide mindless, harmless images to mediate whatever social relations you find yourselves embroiled in. Sometimes the world wins. This was a terrible day, and terrible things happened, and I don't want to discuss them here.

Instead, let's talk about numbers. Here are nine songs. I am glad that it turned out to be nine. The number eight bothers me. It was not always this way. Those first three New Order albums--they each had eight tracks, and I considered them perfect. Precious memories! In my first few broadcasts I could not escape this number, but I have done so recently, and it is quite a relief. I am so finished with symmetry.

It is I again, Guy. This is the last of my spur-of-the-moment programs. The people at WRFI have since tried to chain me to a regular schedule. It has been a spectacular failure so far, but the dream lives on.

LeBatard dans la maison. This program happened so long ago that it has dropped out of the stream of history. Therefore it is new, now and always. Such are the wonders of dead time.

It may have embarrassed me to play "Palatial," knowing as I may have that Kid Catharsis played it at some point or other, probably more than once, knowing him and his issues. But I don't recall, so that, too, is irrelevant now.

The frozen evening on which this broadcast must have taken place was, no doubt, like all the others, except I was there, creating a situation. May such nights return soon. How I detest summers down here in the tropics!

The poetry of good music does not have a "sell by" date. It exists outside of time. From a spectacular standpoint some music never happens, is not consumed or imposed, always seems like "now."

And then there is Aphex Twin! Calm down, I kid.

While this program happened on REVEILLON, it is not a "holiday" broadcast. When holidays are every day, as they are for me, they are not. Perpetual adventure: it can be yours too, if you dare to "ride the snake."

Bonjour. I, Guy Lebatard, return with another audio file. This one dates back to September of 2013. That I post this on "Throwback Thursday" fills me with nauseating embarrassment, but I do not control time. Yet.

Newer transmissions are still available elsewhere, but the spectacular brogrammers at soundcloud will only allow 2 hours' worth of audio before demanding coin, so the "backcatalogue" of U_D_M episodes will reside here, no doubt improving upon what this site otherwise contains.

U_D_M, Transmission 1: 2013 August 30

Kid Catharsis has allowed me to post episodes of my occasional program U_D_M on his website, so here is the first one. I would thank him, but I feel that such gestures only contribute to the world's supply of boredom. He would understand.

I'm Guy LeBatard. Kid Catharsis tells me that there are other noteworthy LeBatards in broadcasting, but I am not related to them and feel nausea at the insinuation. I am descended from a once-proud line of Quebecois funeral directors, if you must know, but that is neither here nor there. At any rate, I am my own person.

I reject the ever-increasing fragmentation of "dance" or "electronic" music or whatever you want to call it, and offer U_D_M as an antidote to IDM. If you know what the latter stands for, you will surmise the meaning of the former. That is why Kid Catharsis and I enjoy a "friendship," as he insists on calling it. We both eschew the pretense of making anyone smarter through music.

In fact I have little use for the written word, but Kid Catharsis has insisted that I write something rather than simply dropping my programs here, as a domesticated feline would do with a dead rodent. I hope these words suffice.
